"Joel DaSilva and the Midnight Howl" in Miami, FL
How did the project come into existence? = I was the frontman for "The Hep Cat Boo Daddies" , (a rockabilly/rock band ) for quite some time. I loved playing in HCBD, but I just needed a fresh start with new members and my sound was evolving. I wanted to go back to my blues roots but also go toward the americana roots and find a new path, both creatively and musically...
I wanted to find like minded musicians who are on the same page as me as well.
I'm very excited with and about The Howl.
Who are the members of the band if any and please tell us about it?
How would you describe your sound/genre? = Hard workin' man's music, Americana Blues/Rock I should say....
Bone crushing soul meets the delta tone of the south.
What formal training or previous experience do any of the members have? = the guys in the band come from Jazz, Blues, and Rock backgrounds and can play just about anything.
the writing process just seems to flow with them...They are an integral part of this group.
I learned first hand when I was a kid, from blues and rock masters like Junior Wells, Smokin' Joe Kubek, William Clarke, Buddy Guy, ,etc etc, while i was first starting out . I was a barback at a local bar where all these cats would play and travel. I would help them set up or go pick them up, in turn they would show me things and offer advice. One of a kind experience it was.
Are you working w/ a producer on your upcoming album? = Yves Giraud from Studio M31 and I produced this album.
The group and I are already writing new material for the next album and hope to do a "Live" one in the future as well.
Who would you say has been the biggest influence on the bands sound or that you have used as inspiration for your music? = I would say me personally are some of the guys who is still listen to and are around like Rick Rossano from The Dillengers, Eddie Gregg, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Albert King, Rev. Horton Heat, the Black Keys, Iggy Pop,Mofro, Al Green, U2, Hendrix, SRV, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Motorhead, so many..... the list could go on and on...
What advice would you give to others starting out? = to learn the business part of the "Music Business" early on as it will help in the long run.
Where can people go to learn more about you and hear your music? = you can find us at various sites:
If you could play anywhere in the world or with anyone you wanted where and who would it be with? = I would say my father who passed away when I was 3, and Lollpallooza with U2 ...
What has been your greatest experience so far either individually or as a whole? = Opening up for guitar legend "Jeff Beck" and solo artist "JJ Grey" from "Mofro". They were very nice and open hearted to us.
BB King was no joke. He is the master.
Very sweet and an open book.
Do you have any upcoming events or news you would like to tell our readers about? = Sure do..
My Self Titled CD comes out nationally in january on CD Baby, I-Tunes, Amazon, and you could also pick one up at one of our shows !
Where do you see yourselves or hope to be in about 5 years? = I just hope to be happy and keep on enjoying what i'm doing and if people dig my music....I'm golden.
Buy the music and pass it on.
