- Artist Name & Location = Stonethrow - Atlanta, GA
- How did the project come into existence? = Stonethrow came about while Atlanta-based vocalist/guitarist Jonathan Ingram was working on a recording project for original material at a studio in Lexington, KY he came to be in acquaintance with through Hugo Ferreira of the band Tantric. During his time in Kentucky, he began writing and playing side sessions with drummer T.J. Taylor and guitarist Shawn Durr, at which point they decided to form a new entity based on the original work Ingram was recording at the time as well as new material they had began to collectively work on. Once back home in Atlanta, Jonathan reached out to longtime friend and bassist Alex Martinez to come aboard to complete Stonethrow.
- Who are the members of the band if any and please tell us about it? = Jonathan Ingram (Vocals/Guitar) formerly of Atlanta based band Stealing 3rd
Alex Martinez (Bass/Vocals) formerly of Atlanta based band Gravity Zero
Shawn Durr (Guitar) and T.J. Taylor (Drums) both formerly of Louisville, KY based band Point of Real.
- How would you describe your sound/genre? = Stonethrow's sound is on the edgy end of 'Mainstream' modern rock, with hints of southern and grunge influences. It is mainstream only in the sense that the music is concise and is driven by vocal melody 'hooks' that are lacking in many bands whose music is as aggresive as that of Stonethrow's.
- What formal training or previous experience do any of the members have? = Each member of Stonethrow is adept in multiple instruments as well as having spent time individually as studio session musicians.
- Are you working w/ a producer on your upcoming album? = We used a team of producers (Wire & Wood Entertainment Group -Michael Stephens, Greg Betsworth, Dave Campbell) on our EP 'The Spark and The Flame'.
- Who would you say has been the biggest influence on the bands sound or that you have used as inspiration for your music? = The common landing area between all 4 of us tends to fall on bands such as Sevendust and Alice in Chains. Elements of these as well as Soundgarden, Candlebox, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, and Bush are also very present in Stonethrow's music.
- What advice would you give to others starting out? = Take the time to make sure your songs are complete and well thought out. So many bands tend to rush their music as soon as they have a verse and chorus written. Take time, be creative. Bridges, intros, and subtle changes throughout can make or break a band's marketability. It's worth the extra time!
- Where can people go to learn more about you and hear your music? = We are present on all of the major social networks (www.facebook.com/stonethrowmusic , www.twitter.com/stonethrowat l, www.myspace.com/stonethrowatl) as well as our youtube channel (www.youtube.com/stonethrowtv ) and our website www.stonethrowonline.com . Our EP 'The Spark and The Flame' is available through all major digital distribution outlets - iTunes, Amazon, etc.
- If you could play anywhere in the world or with anyone you wanted where and who would it be with? = As far as where, we want to play anywhere people are there to listen to live music! We love the live performance side of this business. Its a chance to really connect individually to those who are also music lovers. As to with whom, the crown jewel would definitely have to be Alice in Chains. Those guys music was integral for all of us becoming musicians.
- What has been your greatest experience so far either individually or as a whole? = We have had the opportunity to perform alongside some major national bands so far including Fuel, Tantric, 10 Years, Taproot, All That Remains, Smile Empty Soul, and Saliva. Each of those were incredible experiences.
- Do you have any upcoming events or news you would like to tell our readers about? = We are currently scheduling a spring/summer tour that will encompass the majority of the eastern US. The dates should be released within the month. We also plan to return to studio to complete our full length album for a late 2012/early 2013 release.
- Where do you see yourselves or hope to be in about 5 years? = Hopefully touring our 2nd or 3rd album! As long as we are still creating and performing music, it would be considered a success!
