Colleen C. Clark Interview at Aj&dbs Corp

Posted on March 23, 2011 at 1:56 AM

Colleen C. Clark, St. Petersburg, Florida, USA

Q. How did the project come into existence? I started playing out primarily after my brother Eric, who died of Aids at the age of 29 (8 years ago now)

Q.Who are the members of the band if any and please tell us about it? I play solo (but prefer to play at least duo with Mitch Ray - he plays bass, some lead acoustic guitar, and great back-up vocals) when I first started out I was solo, then was a three piece band that I titled BBR (Bass Blues Rythm) you can still find the site on myspace www.myspace.com/bassbluesrhythm  - I still play with Mitch (Bass) when I can (when he's available).

Q How would you describe your sound/genre? That's a good question, as I seem to deviate into different genres, initially started out in country style type sound (due to writing songs on acoustic guitar I think). Since then Rock, alternative, electronic and dance. I love to experiment and just go with the flow of what I am feeling in the moment.

Q. What formal training or previous experience do any of the members have? Most of my training has been in writing. My entire educational background began with the passion for writing. Since then I've taught myself to play music and in recent years I took Understanding Music Seminar via Duncan Lorien - he is awesome http://www.dlorien.com (the guy is a musical genius really). Mitch Ray (my duo partner) was on Star Search back in the 80's and used to be in a touring band for many years.

Q. Are you working w/ a producer on your upcoming album? no, I'm seriously considering producing my own album, after all the negative experiences I've had with producers, I'm learning and leaning towards total control on my own (unless God drops me the right producer - an honest and experienced one). I've produced Conscious of Eternity (via Jamstudio online) and You Know You Want It (from my home recording studio). So I currently feel inspired to do my own, unless the right producer comes along.

Q. Who would you say has been the biggest influence on the bands sound or that you have used as inspiration for your music? early on, Elvis and the Beatles have been an inspiration, now I mostly focus on FEELINGS and EXPERIENCES as inspiration, something we can all relate to as humans.

Q.What advice would you give to others starting out? life is short, get out there and just do it! (I waited until my brother died to find the nerve to play out).

Q. Where can people go to learn more about you and hear your music? I've got various websites and some of my songs are on Itunes, etc... here are a few of my websites:

http://www.reverbnation/com/colleencclark

http://www.myspace.com/colleencclark

http://www.youtube.com/colleencclark

if you Google my name and singer beside it, you'll find a myriad of sites and places where you can find me

Q. If you could play anywhere in the world or with anyone you wanted where and who would it be with? wow! probably would want to tour the UK and the Caribbean, I am from Canada originally, so it would be nice to go back home also!

Q. What has been your greatest experience so far either individually or as a whole? winning the UK Songwriting Contest (semi-finalist & finalist) and getting TV interview - that rocked - here is the link:

Q. Do you have any upcoming events or news you would like to tell our readers about? My song "Tango with the Devil" was chosen for placement in a film titled "Me, My Mom and a Whistle" to be released this year 2011 by Canadian Film Co. Morrighan Films.

Q. Where do you see yourselves or hope to be in about 5 years? I just want my songs out there, (radio, TV, movies, etc...) inspiring, entertaining, and touching people.

I wouldn't mind other famous singers singing my songs also - just another way of getting them out there!
