- Artist Name & Location = A Fire With Friends Scranton, PA
- How did the project come into existence? = A few years ago I began writing songs with a woman. Shortly after we did the whole open mic thing, a friend of mine hopped on board and the three of us started writing songs together. Most of our practices were held in my mother's old mini van (RIP), parking lots, and in the woods. It sounds a little flowery, but they are memories I'm fond of. A friend suggested the band name to me, and because of our unusual practice locations at unusual hours, "A Fire With Friends" seemed to fit the idea.
- Who are the members of the band if any and please tell us about it? = We have seven people in the band now. I wanted to have a band that had a lot of potential musically, and I guess I grew tired of the whole four/five person rock group thing I had been doing for years. Right now the members of the band are Chelsea Collins, Brian Errigo, Eric Foster, John Husosky, Chris Pelak, Scott Jordan, and myself.
- How would you describe your sound/genre? = Music for drunk scientists.
- What formal training or previous experience do any of the members have? = Chelsea probably has the most formal training, but we've all been involved in local Scranton bands for years.
- Are you working w/ a producer on your upcoming album? = Probably. I had some help with production on our last album from a friend of mine, Ed Cuozzo. I would like him to be involved with the next one as well as Sean Davis and Paul Sinclair who engineered, mixed, and mastered our last album. So far all of our recording experiences have been financed in and put together in a very DIY fashion.
- Who would you say has been the biggest influence on the bands sound or that you have used as inspiration for your music? = Well, there's a lot of us. It's difficult to pinpoint a band in particular, but for me personally I would say the band Margot & The Nuclear So and So's sort of changed how I was looking at things musically.
- What advice would you give to others starting out? = Just do it because you love it. If you really do, it will be worth it. Time weeds out the people who picked up a guitar to fuck a girl. Or at least that's what I tell myself when I'm feeling optimistic.
- Where can people go to learn more about you and hear your music? = We're on most of the social network websites that I can keep up with, but I would say the Facebook juggernaut is the best bet. We've got a link to our band camp on there where you can stream both of our albums and we're usually updating on that site the most often. Although, I am told we'll be having an actual website soon. The link to Facebook now and for what will eventually be our website is http://www.afirewithfriends.com
- If you could play anywhere in the world or with anyone you wanted where and who would it be with? = I don't know how to answer these kinds of questions. I would like to travel all over, and play with bands that inspire us. Modest Mouse, Brand New, or Margot would be awesome. But so would local Scranton bands, A Social State, Lesser Animals, and Family Animals.
- What has been your greatest experience so far either individually or as a whole? = I think our album release shows have felt like gigantic blessings. However, a little while ago we played a show in this local museum in Vermont with some of their local bands who were all great. There was a lot of people hanging out, crammed inside of this tiny place, drinking beers and enjoying music. When we played they were all so supportive and that's a memory I continue to romanticize and would like to live in for forever. It was a reminder as to why we do this in the first place, and you need that some times.
- Do you have any upcoming events or news you would like to tell our readers about? = We have some shows set up that everyone can keep up with on our Facebook. Other then that, we've started writing for the next record and I couldn't be more excited. I'm sure we'll do some touring and stuff as well.
- Where do you see yourselves or hope to be in about 5 years? = I would just like to be making records and touring. Hopefully we'll have a larger audience and maybe, just maybe, I can quit my shitty day job. That would be nice.
