Cherri Wilson Interview @ Aj&dbs

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 1:30 AM

- Artist Name & Location =Cherri Wilson-Thornton

- How did the project come into existence? = I realized I wanted to write songs about eight years ago when I began writing poetry at home in between jobs. I thought that since I love writing and music so much, why don't I become a songwriter. I wrote a couple of songs and realized I didn't want to just write "any" songs, I wanted to write HIT songs that would bring enjoyment into people's lives. So, this is where I am at this point in my musical career ... learning as much as I can about writing great songs, learning to play piano (and not just by ear), learning music theory, MIDI, and taking tons of vocal lessons to continuously improve my vocal instrument.

- Who are the members of the band if any and please tell us about it? = I'm a songwriter/singer who writes songs that at times, have other demo singers sing and market my material in that manner. However, I'm in the process of putting together my own CD wherein I'm performing my own material and will soon begin performing my songs on my CD before an audience with a band that I will put together when the time arrives.

- How would you describe your sound/genre? = My genre of music is primarily country. However, I have dabbled in pop.

- What formal training or previous experience do any of the members have? = My formal training is continuous. I have had much vocal training through various vocal teachers and colleges, as well as piano and music theory.

- Are you working w/ a producer on your upcoming album? = Yes, I am.

- Who would you say has been the biggest influence on the bands sound or that you have used as inspiration for your music? = Miranda Lambert, Colbie Collait, Richard Bryant and Jason Wyatt

- What advice would you give to others starting out? = My advice to any songwriter, performer or musician trying to make it in this business is just to never give up! If you love what you do and plant enough seeds, eventually your music will take roots and develop into something big and beautiful. For some it just takes longer for roots to catch grip. But once the roots start to sprout, hold on as they will spread and quickly grow.

- Where can people go to learn more about you and hear your music? = http://dev.broadjam.com/artists/home.php?artistID=19953

- If you could play anywhere in the world or with anyone you wanted where and who would it be with? = I would love to collaborate on a song with Miranda Lambert and play in Memphis, TN at the Grand Ole Opry.

- What has been your greatest experience so far either individually or as a whole? = Individually, my greatest experience so far has been to write a beautiful song that I'm extremely proud of.

- Do you have any upcoming events or news you would like to tell our readers about? = I'm working on some new material getting ready to put together my very first CD.

- Where do you see yourselves or hope to be in about 5 years? = Within five years I hope to be selling thousands of my songs that I write to people all over the world by producing top quality hit songs that the entire world will enjoy.
